ABOUT US:

Located in America’s “Little Switzerland”, Deininger’s Restaurant is a late 1800’s Victorian Home that was reportedly built by an employee of the Pet Milk Company that once had a branch in New Glarus, Wisconsin. Later it would become a dentist office for some time and eventually a German woman converted it into a restaurant in the early 1990’s. It has been a restaurant ever since. Today it is owned by Peter Salchow and Rhonda Seligman, Peter is the Chef and Rhonda runs things in the front. In the July 19th, 2009 issue of the Wisconsin State Journal, well known food critic Chris Martell for Square Meals rated Deininger’s Restaurant “Worth the trip to New Glarus” and that it belongs on any list of destination dining spots in south-central Wisconsin.

The restaurant itself has three quaint parlors that serve as the dining rooms and a fourth parlor has been converted into a very intimate bistro bar. In the summer months there is outdoor seating on the wrap around Veranda and upstairs has three rooms for private dining.

Chef Salchow serves up a contemporary menu which consists of a variety of entrées including fresh fish, duck, chicken, lamb, veal weiner schnitzel and steaks. His European roots and where he was trained, give him a quality of food preparation with an emphasis on simple yet very tasty European Country Style Cuisine. His nightly specials include items such as Beef Bourguignon – tender beef with root vegetables and pearl onions in a burgundy sauce, Sautéed Pheasant Breast served with cranberry-sweet potato mousse, Quail stuffed with a pleasant veal mousse, Braised Beef Short Ribs in a Burgundy Horseradish sauce, Sauerbraten from his Germany home, served with Red Cabbage and Spaetzel, duck confit, lamb shanks and much more. Specials are selected by season and every night a fresh fish is offered on his menu.
